Whole-flat spray repaint in Kensington, W8
A top-floor flat off High Street Kensington spray-painted throughout in ten days: high vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, walls, doors and skirting. Q1 Floor ProBoard ran through the whole flat; Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt, with Zinsser mould-resistant matt in the kitchen and bathrooms.

A top-floor flat with ceilings up to the rafters
The reception of this flat off High Street Kensington runs up into a vaulted roof with exposed timber trusses, a skylight, track lighting and two period sash windows. Around it are bedrooms, a hallway with a run of doors, a kitchen and bathrooms — a whole flat to be refreshed, with ceilings far out of reach of a ladder.
Protection first: Q1 boards through the whole flat
Spraying only works if everything that isn't being painted is sealed off. Q1 Floor ProBoard was taped down wall to wall through every room, the kitchen was wrapped in plastic sheeting, and windows, glazed doors, wardrobes, the light track and the furniture that stayed were masked. Door handles were taped, and a mobile scaffold tower gave safe access to the apex of the vaulted ceiling.
Spraying a whole flat, ceilings to skirting
Using an airless sprayer, the team coated the high ceilings, the roof beams, the walls, the doors and frames and the skirting — spraying gives an even, brush-mark-free finish on large surfaces and around awkward beams that a roller can't match. Walls and ceilings were finished in Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt in Pure Brilliant White, the doors, frames and skirting in Dulux Trade Satinwood, and the kitchen and bathrooms in Zinsser Perma-White Interior Matt, a mould-resistant paint for steamy rooms. The whole flat took ten days.
