Render this old has to breathe, so we specify mineral silicate and lime systems that let trapped vapour pass out through the coating instead of lifting it off in sheets. Cracked cornice, blown ashlar lines and rusting balcony rails are cut out and made good before any topcoat, and we lodge the scaffold and red-route licences the job needs.

Wallpaper removal on delicate lime plaster
Behind the papered walls of a Notting Hill or Brompton townhouse you usually find soft lime plaster on lath, sometimes under hand-blocked Victorian paper worth recording before it goes. Aggressive scraping scores straight through it, so we soak in stages with a low-heat steamer and ease the layers off by hand, consolidating any friable patches and re-skimming hairline cracks. The wall is then sized and sealed so the next paper hangs without flashing — the right groundwork before a Westbourne Grove reception room or a Holland Park hall is rehung.

Hand-sprayed cabinet finishes for mansion-flat kitchens
Chelsea and Kensington kitchens are often Plain English or bespoke joinery the owner has no wish to rip out — clients off the King's Road and the Design Centre want a furniture-grade respray, not a replacement. Doors and drawer fronts come off to our booth for a 2K lacquer in a chosen heritage tone, while carcasses are masked and finished on site, marble and Calacatta worktops tented throughout. Mansion-block corridors and the goods lift stay sheeted and swept so neighbours never know the work is on.

MDF and joinery spraying for alcoves and libraries
Tall reception rooms either side of a chimney breast in a W11 or SW7 conversion are made for fitted alcove cupboards, full-height bookcases and window-seat joinery. The trick is making new MDF disappear into a 130-year-old room: we profile and prime so the units carry the same shadow lines as the existing cornice and panel mouldings, then lay on sprayed coats dead-flat and lacquer them hard enough for daily library use. Done right, the built-ins read as original cabinetwork rather than a modern addition bolted to the wall.

Damp and mould treatment in lower-ground flats
In RBKC the recurring culprit is the lower-ground floor — garden-flat and basement walls of solid lime render drawing up rising and penetrating damp from the old garden squares and light wells. Painting over it is pointless, so we reinstate breathable from the substrate up: salt-contaminated plaster is hacked off, the wall allowed to dry, then rebuilt in a renovating lime plaster and finished with a vapour-open mineral coat that releases moisture rather than capping it. Where the real fix is a failed DPC or a blocked area gully, we will tell you plainly before any decorating starts.
